![]() It's also worth noting that the Back 4 Blood cast is a bit newer, and have the odds essentially stacked against them. L4D2 specifically was more lighthearted, it wasn't supposed to be a serious story. I think acting like the cast is deep and complex in some weird way or that they are all equally charming is kinda BS. No one ever brings up Rochelle.Įverything else I learned was either from memes, researching it, or being told so. ![]() The only thing I remember is that Ellis really admires Jimmy Gibbs alongside Coach(?). I don't like to use this as a point, I prefer something more concrete, but I cannot tell you a single thing about the Left 4 Dead 2 cast that I learned through playing the actual game. I would say the Left 4 Dead 2 cast was primarily popularized through memes, nostalgia, and accessibility rather than their actual depth. Once again, if we look at the Left 4 Dead 1 cast, this could be more agreed upon as they actually do have a comic, but then you actually have the cast of Left 4 Dead 2 once again. "The characters of L4D are more memorable than the Back 4 Blood cast" In that case though, you then have the issue of the L4D2 cast not appearing in any comics of their own, making their level of depth pretty much the same as the Back 4 Blood cast. The same applies to the L4D cast.Īrguably, the only one up it HAS on Back 4 Blood is that the L4D1 cast actually has their own comics that increase their depth. These are not cardboard cutouts, they do have actual stories behind them if you just play the game. ![]() I do think the cast being split up among 8 characters does make it harder to get to know each one more as an individual, but to then say this removes them of any depth is just kinda dishonest. I always found it odd that my friend has more information regarding its characters rather than the wiki, so it's not even that the information is all that accessible without playing the game. This isn't the only possible combination of characters! This is subjective, but to suggest a combination of a Doomsday prepper, a veteran, a doctor, and a street kid isn't at least somewhat interesting is kinda weird to me. This isn't to say Back 4 Blood is some revolutionary piece of media, but the cast isn't all that different from L4D if you look at them at a very basic level. Walker = The veteran/leader (surprise! its just like bill!)Įvangelo and Holly = Both are more or less the 'kids' of the cleaners I'd say. Maybe its more generic in terms of the combination of archetypes? Even then, I would say the cast is just as interesting and diverse. You learn more about the cast by playing the game. Not fair is it? It's both a dishonest and inaccurate view of the characters. If you look at them as cardboard cutouts and do not put time into the game, that is precisely what you will get from it.īill = The grizzled old experienced veteranįrancis = The gangster (biker sounded too specific) While you are allowed to express yourself, you do once again, risk creating an inaccurate take on the product.Īnyway, to actually address this critique, the characters clearly are more than their archetypes, you can figure this out simply by putting time into the game. It's dishonest at best and I think people sometimes allow opinions like this to pass. When I hear this point, it's usually from someone who has not put much time into Back 4 Blood, which is a serious problem and creates a skewed view of its characters. "Back 4 Blood's characters are generic and boring compared to the L4D cast" I think there should be more positive talk of the game to give a more accurate depiction of how it actually is.Īnyway, this will be about the cast of B4B and why people actually sleep on them quite a bit. I think now though, playing as long as I have, and discussing it with a friend, I want to tackle a common critique of Back 4 Blood that's bothered me more than some of the others. We all know about it, we've all heard it, and maybe even talked about it.
